Project: Lumber Wrap Tooling Proof of Function

Operation: Stacks of lumber are introduced for bundling & strapping.  

Issue: 2 proposed designs offer how the strapping is fed and wrapped around the stacked lumber. Which one functions better? 

OCD Solution: From the customer’s 3D models, OCD requested clarification on critical areas due to build space restrictions for 3D printing. From this, OCD was able to create the .stl files that would fit within the printable area. Printed parts were produced & provided for assembly & evaluation.  

Extras: With 3D printing, having a physical prototype that can provide proof of function is extremely beneficial to the design team. Also, when compared to traditional manufacturing, the cost savings & reduced turnaround time is a huge benefit. In this case, OCD is not sure which engineer’s design won out 😉.
